How does billing work?

Meta charges for use of the WhatsApp Official API based on delivered template messages. Regular messages exchanged within the support window are not charged by Meta per conversation. Rates vary depending on the template category and the recipient’s country.

What generates a charge

There is typically a charge when an approved template is sent. Examples:
  • Order confirmation
  • Billing/collection
  • Reminder
  • Support recovery
  • Marketing campaigns

What does not generate a charge

Once the customer replies and the window is open, Meta does not charge for regular messages sent during that period. Examples:
  • Text messages
  • Chatbot replies
  • Agent messages
  • Media sent
  • AI messages
  • Utility templates
  • Templates sent within a window opened from a CTWA campaign
